Here at Louisville Grows, our Americorps VISTA members #GetThingsDone!

Louisville Grows has had the honor of hosting AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) members since 2017. The VISTA members serving Louisville Grows come from various backgrounds with varied skill sets, yet all have the desire to improve the health and well-being of our community through our urban forestry and agriculture programs. They are committed to increasing capacity with Louisville Grows in order to lift communities and individuals out of poverty. With resounding recommendations from our Louisville Grows’ staff, many of our former VISTAs currently work for local nonprofits, have started careers in commercial farming, and even become a part of the Louisville Grows’ staff.

Haley Jackson, AmeriCorps VISTA

Development Coordinator

Haley is originally from Winchester, Kentucky and attended college at Thomas More University in northern Kentucky. She earned a B.A. in Environmental Science and minored in Biology and Nonprofit & Public Administration. Her combined interests in environmental justice, sustainability, and food security drew her to the VISTA position and Louisville Grows. Haley has experience in the environmental field in the US and abroad and is eager to learn more about capacity building within a local nonprofit. She is thrilled to be a part of the #mightyLGteam!

Aqdas Khudadad, AmeriCorps VISTA

Communications Coordinator

Aqdas is from Louisville and recently graduated from Centre College, where she completed a B.A. in Political Science. While completing her degree, she gained a passion for various social justice issues. She is interested in women’s empowerment, human rights, and racial justice as well as the ways that these issues relate to environmental justice. She is dedicated to community service and civic engagement. She looks forward to engaging with the Louisville community and being a part of efforts to grow just and greener neighborhoods!

Laura McAllister, AmeriCorps VISTA

Volunteer Coordinator

Although Laura began her life in the Chicago area, she realized that Kentucky felt like home when she attended UK for a degree in English and Environmental and Sustainability Studies. Throughout her college career, Laura worked on on-campus and statewide sustainability initiatives to realize her passion for local-level change-making. Now, she is thrilled to be working with Louisville Grows. She intends to spend her VISTA year learning from the community, forming connections with volunteers, and helping to water the saplings of environmental justice in Louisville.
