The South Points Community Garden
The South Points Community Garden is located in the Hazelwood neighborhood at 1400 Bicknell. It was established in Spring 2017 and was the first community garden to use the Louisville Grows Community Garden Toolkit. The South Points Garden is generously sponsored by the Taylor Boulevard Save-A-Lot!
The South Points Community Garden is located on Bicknell Ave and Hazelwood Ave. The community garden area is 450 ft x 16 ft in a 7 acre fenced lot. The plots are all 16 ft long, and raised beds are available as well. All the gardeners have different levels of experience but everyone is around to help each other. We have a beekeeper on our garden team who takes care of three beehives on site.
So what’s happening on the rest of the 7 acres? Louisville Grows and Gate of Hope Ministries partnered to farm the Hope Community Garden and Hope Community Farm CSA. KY OneHealth farms a section in production style to provide fresh food to their hospitals. The Food Literacy Project works with students from Hazelwood Elementary on a garden of their own. In Spring 2017, Louisville Grows installed a Food Forest along the perimeter of the area to provide fresh fruits to anyone walking by, as well as a hoop style greenhouse. There will also be free compost available thanks to the LMPD horse stables and Save A Lot Taylor Blvd. Additionally, the South Points Community Garden would like to say THANK YOU to Idlewild Butterfly Farm for their donation of a pollinator house and beneficials!
