Healthy House

Healthy House is the headquarters for Louisville Grows located in the historic Portland neighborhood at 1641 Portland Avenue. In addition to being our office, Healthy House is an engaging community space that connects the neighborhoods we serve to various opportunities provided by our community partners.

Philanthropist Christina Lee Brown and the Owsley Brown II Family Foundation funded the Healthy House and gifted it to Louisville Grows in 2017. The traditional camelback shotgun design of the building was developed as a model home for green living that encourages a holistic healthy lifestyle. The building is energy efficient and environmentally conscious featuring a green roof with beehives, car-charging station, rain gardens, raised garden beds and eco-friendly plumbing, heating, and cooling. Healthy House offers programming and conference space, a large kitchen suitable for cooking demonstrations and classes and an art gallery in the breezeway.

Healthy House hours are 9am-4pm, Monday through Friday. The space is open to the community for tours and gatherings. To schedule a tour or visit, contact our Executive Director, Christine at .

Healthy House Programs

Healthy House programs, workshops and classes focus on healthy living, healthy eating, environmental education or environmental equality. We have developed strong collaborations with many community partners who facilitate various holistic health and wellness workshops at Healthy House. Many of the events at Healthy House are free to the community, donation-based or contribute what you can. When our classes and programs charge a fee, we always offer scholarships for 25% of the participants. Classes and programs have included community yoga, a film series, various nutrition and cooking classes for all ages, preservation/canning courses, health information workshops, plus many more!

Healthy House Art Gallery

The Healthy House Art Gallery is an intimate venue designed to showcase local artists whose work relates directly to healthy living, healthy eating, environmental education or environmental equity. Louisville Grows will advertise a call for artists through our social media platforms, newsletter and partners for our quarterly showings. We also welcome artists to request the opportunity to partner with us on an art exhibit through our Artist Submission Form.

Louisville Grows will work with approved artists to develop a timeline for advertising and the opening of the exhibit.

All artwork will be shown on our website including the medium used and pricing if the piece is for sale. In conjunction with Republic Bank First Friday Hop, the public will be invited to opening night on the first Friday of the month. Opening night will feature a meet and greet with the artist(s) and light appetizers and beverages.
